The purpose of my genius hour project was to earn money for the art program at our school (Kingsford High School). I wanted to do this because our art supplies were becoming scarce and we needed them badly.
My plan for the project was to create a go fund me page or a kickstarter page to earn the money. I would then advertise this page around town in gas stations or something just to get the word out there. That plan didn't work out because I couldn't make the pages.
I eventually put something up on Facebook saying that I needed to earn money for the art program at my school. That didn't work out either. I ended up taking the post down after a month because I noticed art supplies were being donated randomly by other students at the request of our teacher. She asked that we just bring in supplies that are not used around our houses anymore.
After that I figured there wasn't as much of a need for money so I slowed down the campaign. I did not give up on the campaign of course. I continued to try and earn money but I lowered my goal to about $50-$100. If you didn't know or don't remember it was $200.
I can't exactly say that this project helped me learn anything in specific. It did help me learn a bit about putting out ads for earning money for charity. I used that knowledge and research to put that campaign out there.
I used my knowledge of art and other things like that to make the ads. I shared some of that knowledge to people through those ads. Most of my campaigning was done online so it was more technical types of ads.
In my opinion, I did well on keeping my site up to date and partially appealing to any viewers. Even though the views on my site were very minimal, I believe that some of the people on my site thought it was done ok. Another thing that I believe I did well on was researching ways to earn money in a charitable sort of way.
I did not have very many successes throughout this process but some of them were pretty good. Not much went well. I did not earn any money but I did have a few views on some of the things that I put out there. As long as people saw what I was trying to do and at least hopefully consider chipping in I think that is good enough. In the end it did all work out because the artroom got the supplies it needed. It might not have been because of my project but at least the art room got the supplies.
